NEW CARPET FOR ST. PAUL’S CHURCH

If you have picked up this magazine from St. Paul’s Church, you have probably stood on our new carpet and if you’re regularly visited St. Paul’s Church in the past hopefully you will have noticed the difference!
A short
while ago someone kindly donated a significant sum of money to St. Paul’s
Church to enable us to replace the blue, in parts threadbare, carpet at the
Church. No doubt those who have
vacuumed it in the past will have noticed the holes, although for a carpet that
is estimated to have been some 30 – 40 years old, it was in remarkably good
condition for its age.
The carpet in the chancel area was red and it was agreed that as part of the project, the whole area would be carpeted in blue. The PCC had the final decision about which shade to choose, and their choice was very similar to the original carpet.
As
might be expected, replacing the carpet was not a simple job.
It involved obtaining several different quotes so that we could ensure
that we had a product that was value for money.
We eventually decided to go with Barnes Carpets from Barkingside and a
February date was set for the work.
Taking
up the old carpet was no small task and took a group of people about 3 hours
after a Sunday Service in January.
Then, the hard work really began. The
wooden floor had to be sanded and sealed before the new carpet
was
laid, a job that took Mike and Christopher, with some help from Steve James,
almost a week.
The carpet was then ready to be laid on Tuesday, 7th February which again involved Mike and Christopher being present whilst the chaps from Barnes Carpets got on with the job.
When it was finished, someone kindly vacuumed the carpet and hopefully you’ll agree that it looks superb and feels soft as you walk along it.
A big thank you to all those who gave their time to make the church look so much better and big thank you to our anonymous donor who paid for the carpet.
