The Unlock Walk

 Saturday, 29TH April, 2006

Every year an organisation called Unlock holds a sponsored walk around London churches.  I am getting in early this year in the hope that some of you would like to join us.  This year it’s around North Greenwich and Lewisham.  It’s a lovely day out.

Unlock is a Christian organisation that has been around for almost 30 years.  It exists to help urban churches of any denomination to respond to the challenges in their areas.  Unlock are especially concerned with communication in a tabloid (non-book) culture.

The day consists of walking around nine miles and stopping at churches to look around, have a cup of tea and, if wanted, making a small donation.  We plan to start walking at North Greenwich (next to the Millennium Dome).  We will be meeting at Hainault station at 9am and should be home around 5pm (depending on how fast we walk).

Everyone gets a map and at each church your map is stamped to prove you were there!  You can also pick up some info about the church.  You will need a small packed lunch as drinks and biscuits (and sometimes cakes) are provided at each church.  There is also a quiz to do about the area as we walk around if you want to.  We walk whatever the weather but you can stop at anytime to come home if you get tired.

Every year a new route is chosen so you see so many different churches.  It’s a great day meeting people and chatting to people we see on a Sunday but don’t get time to know very well.  Having a nose around other people’s churches is interesting and can provide good ideas for our own church.  Please put this date in your dairies and come and have a lovely day out with us.  Getting sponsors is entirely optional but if you would like a sponsor form, please let me know.
