HORNCHURCH PASSIONPLAY
On Easter Saturday, Kathryn and Rob Whittaker invited me to go to the Passionplay at Hornchurch with them. I have never been to one before so after checking with Robert and the girls I accepted. We left home at 6.45pm on a drizzly evening and got to Hornchurch in good time to park before the performance began at 7.30pm. It took place on the green between the Queens Theatre and Sainsburys car park, and was a collaboration between the Hornchuch churches. The costumes, lighting and sound system were excellent as was the acting. It was a pity the weather was poor as the previous evening had been dry and warm but the actors made the best of it and even joked about the rain.
The production was really well put on, I especially liked the way the writers had padded out the Bible story, with my favourite bit being the Last Supper as the scene focussed on the friendships and jokes between Jesus and the disciples.
The crucifixion was done well too with enough real looking blood to satisfy the 10 year old boys standing next to me.
At the end, the main organiser spoke to the crowd and invited all who felt touched to go to a alpha taster supper with a view to attending an alpha course. I would ask that we would all pray for this as obviously this is a wonderful opportunity to bring people to Christ.
The Passionplay is on every Easter for 3 nights starting on Good Friday. If you've never been I'd recommend it.
