WEEKEND TRIP TO
ST. MARKS COLLEGE, AUDLEY END
I love St. Marks. It was my 3rd weekend there with the Highlanders and each one has been great. (This is partly thanks to Sarah the wonderful cook).
My first visit was about 6 years ago when we shared the weekend with a group from St. Marys Dagenham. I have bumped into Ron (their Vicar) on several occasions since, including last years Stubbers when we decided to do a re-run and book up as a joint group.
Ron’s team led the teaching, whilst myself, Malcolm and Suzy organised the games and activities. (Ron fortunately is very easy going and didn’t seem to mind cutting his talks short when our activities overran – which they usually did). We managed to get our teaching points across though, in a fun way I hope. Here’s how the weekend went:-
| Friday Evening: | Get
to know each other games + late night walk with cocoa and video. |
| Saturday Morning: | Teaching
and games |
| Saturday Evening: | Sports
which included trampolining, archery, treasure hunt, tyre games and
assault course. A word of warning – don’t mess with Malcolm –
despite being twice the age of the youth worker from St Marys he took
him on for 3 laps of the assault course and won every time! - Go
Malcolm!! |
| Saturday Evening: | Non
alcoholic cocktails and disco courtesy of our very own Kyle, ably
assisted by Alex– well done Kyle and Alex! |
| Sunday: | Teaching and games followed by an informal communion service at which we heard the first playing of a brilliant worship song written during the weekend by Nicky, Nick, Moira and Alex. |
Then it was time for a delicious Sunday Roast followed by lots of goodbyes and home.
At the end of the weekend John, who runs St. Marks, told me how much the staff had enjoyed working with our group and how impressed they were at how the 2 church groups had worked [and played] together – so well done guys.
God blessed us yet again with a cold but gloriously sunny weekend and we all came home feeling tired and happy but wishing the weekend could have been longer so - roll on the next St. Marks trip.
