THE QUEEN’S HANDBAG!

Have you ever wondered what the Queen keeps in her handbag?  Well, I had always thought there would be a handkerchief and perhaps a lipstick and a compact.  I had also always believed that the Queen never carried any money with her on official duties; well, now I know different!

On Sunday, 23rd April, 2006 the normal Songs of Praise programme was replaced by a recording of the family service to mark the Queen’s 80th birthday in St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.  It was a pretty standard royal type of service and during the penultimate hymn, a collection was taken.  I was absolutely amazed to see the Queen open her handbag and take our what appeared to be a £10 note and put it in the collection.  Prince Phillip and Prince Charles then followed her example.

Yes, I know I’m a very sad person to look at how other people deal with their collections, (that’s what comes of being appointed as your treasurer!) but I thought that she set a good example to us all.  Well done Ma’am.
